Current Research Project: I am currently a member of the Shinohara Lab, where 

I work with mouse models and cell lines to characterize the role of intracellular osteopontin 

(iOPN) in macrophage-mediated immune responses that contribute to idiopathic pulmonary 

fibrosis. I have prior research experience in cardiology, oncology, and drug delivery

 systems/biomaterials, which has shaped my interdisciplinary approach to science. 

My current interests center on immunology, as it examines complex cellular mechanisms 

to understand human disease while integrating knowledge across multiple fields. After completing 

my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue either an MD or an MD/PhD.

How she got involved in research: I knew early on that I wanted to get involved in research at 

Duke because of the fascinating work taking place across the School of Medicine and various 

academic departments. During my freshman winter break, I spent time looking through lab websites

 and Principal Investigator profiles to identify research projects that aligned with my interests. I cold 

emailed a few labs and ended up connecting with the Shinohara Lab. Since joining, I have found the lab 

to be a deeply collaborative and supportive environment, with strong mentorship that has been instrumental

 in growing my research interests.
