This past summer, I worked in Cape Town, South Africa for three months working on a two-pronged project: I interned part-time at The Stevenson Gallery while, simultaneously, conducting research at the archive of the late South African art writer Colin Richards. While at the gallery, I spent time working directly with the gallery’s owner and primary curator, Joost Bosland. Specifically, I helped in an administrative capacity to prepare the gallery for Art Basel and ArtXLagos, two international art fairs, as well as assisted with the day-to-day operation of the gallery. Additionally, I worked alongside the curatorial team on the planning, design and execution of the gallery’s largest group show ever (to celebrate the gallery’s 15th birthday) as well as the planning of two solo artist exhibitions. In my research, I worked to create a digital version of Colin Richard’s archive that is saved online and searchable. I also worked to communicate with publishers to secure rights to reprint Richard’s work in a forthcoming anthology of his writings.
