Current Research Project: Research has allowed me to explore interests I didn’t even know I had. From the social psychology of compassion and adolescent political identities to transitional justice in Colombia and museum digitization in Scotland, I’ve contributed to four diverse projects during my time at Duke. I’ve approached research as a search for breadth of knowledge, rather than depth. Next semester, I’ll be joining a Bass Connections team studying mental health and the criminal justice system, and I’m excited to continue expanding my perspective.
How she got involved with research: I’ve been a part of SURF, a Bass Connections team, an NSF-funded Duke Law research team, and the Hart Leadership Program’s Laidlaw Scholars program. These opportunities have given me a wide view of how research looks across disciplines and campus initiatives. I’m excited to share my insights on the programs that have shaped my growth—and even the experiences that weren’t the right fit—as a way to help other students navigate their own research journeys.
