2019 DSRF Award Winner Elena Puccio

My research focuses on the synthesis of a novel compound that will inhibit advanced enzymes that confer antibiotic resistance to bacteria. This compound will restore activity of once-effective drugs that are degraded by these highly-evolved enzymes. Thanks to the DSRF this past summer, I successfully synthesized my compound and developed assays that can be used to assess its properties after purification.
