“This summer I used archives in Atlanta and New York City to investigate urban development in Atlanta at the turn of the 20^th century. Interested in the consequences of events like the 1906 Atlanta race riot, I collected hundreds of letters, government documents, photos, and newspaper articles that detailed the stories of Atlanta’s most vulnerable residents and their efforts to assert a right to live and thrive in the emerging Southern metropolis.”
