“This summer I used archives in Atlanta and New York City to investigate urban development in Atlanta at the turn of the 20th century. Interested in the consequences of events like the 1906 Atlanta race riot, I collected hundreds of letters, government documents, photos, and newspaper articles that detailed the stories of Atlanta’s most vulnerable residents and their efforts to assert a right to live and thrive in the emerging Southern metropolis.”
