Deans’ Summer Research Fellowship (DSRF) Story: Chase Mathis

Author: Chase Mathis

What challenges did you encounter during your research and how did you work through these difficulties?

There were some issues  regarding simulations I did. I couldn't do it only on my laptop, so i had to seek other computing resources. I was familiar with Duke resources, so I used those and they helped a lot.

What sparked your interest in this field?

I've always be interested in mathematics. I'm unsure exactly where that enjoyment sparked from.  This specific sub-field of mathematics piqued my interest because of its importance and beauty. There's a quote that people choose their mathematics careers based off which mathematical symbols they like to draw the most. For me, I like drawing graphs and  expectations.

Curious about DSRF?

This project was made possible through the Deans’ Summer Research Fellowship (DSRF)—a unique opportunity for rising juniors and seniors in the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences to pursue funded summer research full-time!

Effective this 2025-2026 Academic year, we are rebranding DSRF to be the Trinity Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research Fellowship (T-SUMR)! If you're pursuing graduation with distinction and are passionate about research, consider applying to T-SUMR in December of your Sophomore or Junior year.
