Overview

The Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) encourages student involvement beyond the classroom and offers resources and learning opportunities that include awards, fellowships, and related experiences:

Awards

  • CDS’s John Hope Franklin Student Documentary Awards offer monetary support to help undergraduates attending area universities conduct summer-long documentary fieldwork projects.
  • CDS’s Julia Harper Day Award for Documentary Studies is an annual award of $500 recognizing a graduating Duke University senior who has demonstrated excellence in documentary studies and has significantly contributed to CDS programs.

Fellowships

  • The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, a program of CDS, offers a limited number of fellowships to deserving Duke University undergraduates to participate in the international event, which is held in Durham every spring.
